CHATA has joined one of the world’s largest community based environmental campaigns, Clean Up the World, to help make a difference to the environment in Curaçao and to the planet.
CHATA will join an estimated 35 million volunteers from 120 countries across the globe that are taking action in support of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity.
Jeanette Bonet from CHATA said Clean Up the World lets us all do something practical and positive to help maintain biodiversity - the rich network of life forms on which we all rely.
“Biodiversity is life. We depend on the survival of these millions of other plant and animal species for our food, fuel, health and enjoyment,” Jeanette Bonet said.
“The Theme of the Clean Up the World campaign this year is ‘Communities Caring for Nature’. We ask people to recognise how interconnected we all are, and to join us to help protect and promote this vital diversity in our local area.
“As a member of Clean Up the World, we are going to commit to the sustainable management of Curaçao’s natural resources and environment. Business in general can profit from a clean and healthy environment. Our local community depends on it and our visitors enjoy it. We’re calling on the whole Curaçao community to join us in helping to protect our local environment.”
Clean Up the World Chairman and founder, Ian Kiernan AO* said CHATA will play a significant role in the 2010 Clean Up the World campaign.
“It was great to learn that CHATA is involved in Clean Up the World this year. I have no doubt the activities they have planned will help protect Curaçao and the environment for future generations,” he said.
“We need to unite to support biodiversity and this activity is an important part of a global effort. I hope everyone gets involved to clean up our environment and help protect our precious plant and animal species.”
Clean Up the World started in Sydney, Australia in 1993 and is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The annual campaign brings together non-government organisations, community groups, schools, governments, businesses and individuals to undertake activities to improve water quality, clean up local streets, parks, waterways and forests and educate children about the environment.
