June 2010 preliminary hotel occupancies averaged 65.7% as compared to 69.6% in June 2009, a 3.9 % points decrease.

The June occupancies were heavily affected by the South American region being the only region showing a decrease of 53% in stopover tourists in comparison with the year 2009. The strong decrease in the Venezuelan travel continues to affect not only the hotel performance, but also other areas such as down town shopping, restaurants etc.

For the first half of the year 2010, the average occupancy is at 70.8%, compared to 75.8% in 2009. This is a decrease of 5% points.

The decrease in YTD average hotel occupancy was due to the steep fall of the Venezuelan travel to the island in combination with a steep increase in room capacity on the island compared to last year.
